Diisocyanates Above 0.1%: How to Identify Which Products Contain Them and Manage the Training Requirement
Diisocyanates are almost never sold as standalone substances; they are generally found in mixtures such as adhesives, polyurethanes, paints, or sealants.
When their concentration is equal to or greater than 0.1% by weight, Entry 74 of Annex XVII of REACH requires, effective August 24, 2023, specific training for industrial and professional users, as they are Category 1 respiratory sensitisers and are recognized as a cause of occupational asthma.
The first challenge is to identify them
This information is provided in Section 3 of Safety Data Sheet, along with the CAS number, CLP classification, and concentration range.
A watchlist dedicated to diisocyanates
SDS-FullService uses a dedicated watchlist to automatically identify diisocyanates—even when they are present as components of a mixture—and returns a list of the affected products.
Although diisocyanates are already included and monitored among the substances subject to restrictions under REACH, the dedicated list makes it possible to quickly identify products that contain them and to obtain the information needed for training, audits, and internal reviews.
In the event of an audit, how long does it take today to manually produce a complete and verifiable list?
